HONORING Jeff Empric and Newell Nussbaumer upon
the occasion of their designation for special
recognition in connection with the Buffalo Powder
Keg Winter Festival
WHEREAS, Individuals who give of their time and energies and serve
the best interests of their communities are an asset beyond remuneration
and cannot be sufficiently extolled; and
WHEREAS, It is the intent of this Legislative Body to recognize and
pay tribute to those individuals whose civic endeavors have enhanced the
quality of their community in the great State of New York; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, it is the sense of this Legislative Body to
honor Jeff Empric and Newell Nussbaumer upon the occasion of their
designation for special recognition in connection with the Buffalo
Powder Keg Winter Festival; and
WHEREAS, Jeff Empric is the Founder of the "Roaming Buffaloes," and
Newell Nussbaumer is the creator of "Buffalorising.com"; and
WHEREAS, Together, Jeff Empric and Newell Nussbaumer are the
Co-Chairs of the first Buffalo Powder Keg Winter Festival, held on
February 27-28, 2010, in downtown Buffalo, New York; and
WHEREAS, During the weekend of February 27-28, downtown Buffalo was
transformed into a festive winter celebration like nothing the city had
seen before; the first Buffalo Powder Keg Winter Festival marked the
beginning of what promises to be an exciting annual tradition; and
WHEREAS, Supporting the Buffalo Powder Keg Winter Festival meant
supporting the rebirth of downtown Buffalo and the surrounding region;
the event had an enormous impact on the local and national image of
Buffalo by placing it among those major cities that host similar events,
as well as highlighting the hardy, fun-loving, and friendly nature of
Buffalonians that helped the city earn its nickname, "the City of Good
Neighbors"; and
WHEREAS, Committed to being environmentally friendly, the Buffalo
Powder Keg Winter Festival featured events and attractions such as the
world's largest ice maze, horse and carriage rides, public art projects,
snow volleyball, mass mini-snowman building, bike races, snow soccer,
rescue sled relay races, soup and chili cook-offs, and fireworks; and
WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication which Jeff Empric
and Newell Nussbaumer have displayed in organizing, promoting, and
administering the first Buffalo Powder Keg Winter Festival; they have
stood constant in dignity, good grace and humor; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when
individuals of such courage, noble aims and accomplishments are brought
to our attention, they should be recognized by all the citizens of this
great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Jeff Empric and Newell Nussbaumer upon the occasion of their
designation for special recognition in connection with the Buffalo
Powder Keg Winter Festival; and be it further
RESOLVED, That copies of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Jeff Empric and Newell Nussbaumer.
