NEW YORK STATE SENATOR STACHOWSKI SECURES FUNDING FOR
PURCHASE OF ELECTRONIC HEALTH RECORD SYSTEM FOR ASPIRE
BUFFALO, NEW YORK – Joined by consumers from Aspire of Western New York at its new health clinic, New York State Senator William T. Stachowski today announced that he has secured funding to help the organization purchase an electronic health record (EHR) system. Over 2,000 individuals with developmental disabilities are treated at the clinic and according to Aspire officials having their health information in electronic format will enhance their care.
“The new electronic medical records system will save Aspire thousands of man-hours each year. I am pleased to have helped play a part in expanding efficient patient care here at Aspire,” said Senator William T. Stachowski. “This organization is widely recognized for its work with children and adults with developmental disabilities, and has become an intricate part of the Western New York community. This funding will play a role in ensuring successful patient care,
increasing productivity and increasing the number of patients to better serve the community.”
“Senator Stachowski is a champion of those with developmental disabilities and through the years has been a great supporter of Aspire; we are truly grateful for his advocacy on behalf of our consumers and all those with developmental disabilities,” Thomas Sy, executive director, Aspire of Western New York said.
“As you can imagine, those with developmental disabilities require a great deal of different medications and one of significant benefits of electronic health records is the ability to keep track of medication history,” said Colin McMahon, MD, Medical Director of Aspire. “An EHR system will allow us to better monitor and track tens of thousands of prescriptions and provide even better care for our consumers.”
Also participating at the event were representatives from HEALTHeLINK, the Western New York Clinical Information Exchange, which allows for the interoperability of different EHR systems. HEALTHeLINK provides health care practices with immediate access to critical health information, including alerts regarding dangerous drug combinations as well as laboratory results, radiology and other transcribed reports.
“Electronic health record systems are enhancing the care being provided to patients throughout Western New York,” said Daniel E. Porreca, executive director of HEALTHeLINK said. “Sharing patient health information through the clinical information exchange has the potential to not only save money, but more importantly save lives.”
