Trocaire College Receives $100,000 Check from NYS Senator Stachowski

Senator William T. Stachowski joined President Paul B. Hurley, Jr., Ph.D., at Trocaire Colleges South Buffalo campus to present a $100,000 check, a grant from the New York State Legislative Initiative program.

The Senator was instrumental in helping to secure funding to upgrade the Commons space and kitchen area which has been in existence since the early 1960’s.  According to President Hurley, “We are grateful to Senator Stachowski for his help in securing this funding.  The Commons is a gathering space where students, faculty and staff come together - this newly renovated area will bring a greater sense of community to the campus environment.”  Grant funds have provided for the renovation and purchase of equipment and supplies for the food service space and instructional equipment and furnishings for the newly renovated commons area

“I am proud to have played a part in the continued growth of Trocaire College through the grant funding we were able to award Trocaire,” said Senator Stachowski.  “The college is widely recognized for its degree and certificate programs in healthcare, business and technology, and is an intricate part of South Buffalo along with the Western New York community.  It is my hope that this funding plays a role in ensuring the future success of Trocaire and its students for many years to come.”

President Hurley noted that with increasing enrollment and the addition of new programs, the demand for space continues to increase.  “The enhanced Commons and kitchen space will meet the daily needs of our commuter campus by providing a venue for programs, meetings and events, as well as a space for rest and relaxation.”  The area provides a comfortable seating and gathering space for students to utilize during their personal time.  The renovated kitchen provides a more functional food service area.

Trocaire College, founded by the Sisters of Mercy of Buffalo in 1958, is a private college specializing in associate degree and certificate programs in hospitality, business, healthcare and technology.  A new Bachelor of Science degree with a major in Radiologic Technology will begin this Fall 2010 semester.  Trocaire’s Extension Center, The Russell J. Salvatore School of Hospitality & Business - located on Transit Road in Lancaster, offers courses in hospitality, business, human resource and computer networking.
