Senator William Stachowski Presents
Boys & Girls Club of Eden State Grant

Senator William T. Stachowski (D-58th District, Buffalo/Lakeview) visited the Boys and Girls Club of Eden to present a New York State Legislative Grant, which he was able to secure for the Boys and Girls Club for $10,000.

The Boys and Girls Club of Eden is a non-profit organization which gives young people a place to belong, and a chance to learn and grow in the Eden New York area. The ‘Club’ helps community youth to make positive and healthy choices to strengthen character increase confidence and enhance the ability to relate well to others. This grant is dedicated to promote health and wellness in children.

“The CDC has recently stated that the number of overweight children has doubled,” stated Senator Stachowski. “This grant is specifically designed to fight that unhealthy lifestyle.”

Debbie Popple, Boys and Girls Club Executive Director added, “This funding will support the Triple Play which demonstrates how eating right, keeping fit and forming positive relationships add up to a healthy lifestyle for Club members. Club professionals help boys and girls learn about good nutrition and how to make smart meal and snack choices.”

“I am glad to have been able to secure the funds to help this very important program. The consequences of childhood obesity lead to high blood pressure, high cholesterol and diabetes, and unhealthy adults,” continued the Senator. When I was younger, I was involved in baseball, basketball and football, all through high school and in to college, but our younger generation isn’t quite that active, This grant will help educate the youth here at the Boys& Girls Club in healthy activities and healthy food choices.”

The NYS Legislative Grant, provided by Senator Stachowski will fund the “Triple Play” and “Healthy Habits” programs, for children from 6 – 18 years old. The programs promote health and wellness through good nutrition, fun activities, sports leagues and leadership skill building. The mission of the club is to inspire and enable all youth members to realize their full potential as productive, responsible & caring citizens through active participation in positive youth development activities during their leisure time. Although many youth participate to some degree in sports and fitness activities, they are not always physically fit. They often lack the basic knowledge they need to make positive food choices. Club professionals help boys and girls learn about good nutrition and how to make smart meal and snack choices. Members receive coaching in sports leagues and fun activities, developing their coordination and leadership skills. This interaction along with organized social recreation activities strengthen character, increase confidence and enhance the ability to relate well to others.
