Senator Stachowski Attends Lakeside Cemetery, as Hamburg
VFW Post 1419 Dedicates Field of Valor
Event featured military tributes, special guest speakers
Hamburg, NY – In a special ceremony was held on Saturday, May 29, 2010. Representatives from Lakeside Cemetery and Hamburg Township VFW Post 1419, as well as honored guests, dedicate the cemetery’s Field of ValorSM, a distinguished area designed exclusively for veterans and their spouses. Each sacred burial space will be marked by an upright marble memorial, such as those used in Arlington National Cemetery.
"It is truely an honor for WNY veterans and Lakeside Cemetary to be honored with the Field of Valor," said Senator Stachowski. "As our heros move to their final resting place, thise Field will serve as an appropriate and respectful field of honor."
“We are humbly honored to dedicate the Field of ValorSM in reverent recognition of the brave and courageous men and women who so honorably and faithfully served our country,” says Joseph P. Dispenza, President of The Forest Lawn Group, which owns Lakeside Cemetery.
“As our veterans pass, this highly-visible Field of Valor provides additional homage to those who so gallantly served our country,” says Jerry Welsted, U.S. Army Commander, VFW Post 1419.
Special guest speakers at the ceremony include Marlene Roll, U.S. Army VFW Patriotic Instructor for the Department of New York and Jeffrey W. Foley, Brigadier General, Commanding General, U.S. Army Signal Center of Excellence and Fort Gordon, New York State Senator William Stachowski, Erie County Legislator Lynne Dixon and Hamburg Town Supervisor Steven Walters.

The current office was the Buffalo-Erie electric train railway station stop to facilitate interments from Buffalo, NY and south towns via rail.
