Senator Bill Stachowski & Eden Valley Growers Deliver OVER 20,000 Flower and Vegetable Plants
New York State Senator William T. Stachowski (D 58th, Lakeview/Buffalo) coordinated the delivery of over 10,000 flower and vegetable plants from the Eden Valley Growers to several Buffalo community groups today, at the PUSH Buffalo facility located at 92, 19th Street. “This has been a great way of bringing together the resources of the agricultural region of the 58th NYS Senate District with the needs of the urban areas,” said Senator Stachowski. A believer in utilizing the varied resources of his 58th District, Senator Stachowski started the program two years ago after discussing the concept with well known Eden farmer Paul Zittel. “My District is wide spread and includes some of the urban areas of Buffalo as well as the agricultural rich south towns,” said Stachowski. “In an effort to bring the two together I arranged for the pickup and delivery of thousands of young plants to be used by the agencies involved to help beautify their neighborhoods as well as promote urban vegetable gardening.” This is the third consecutive year for this program. The project continues to endorsed by the Eden Valley Growers and is the biggest event to date. Over 13,000 total plants have been distributed in the first two years of the program. “The past years were so successful, that we wanted to grow the event, and again this year, the Eden Valley Growers have been fantastic with their support and even greater generosity and I see this as a win-win for everyone involved,” added Stachowski. Senator Stachowski had the plants delivered to the PUSH facility at 92, 19th Street in Buffalo from the Eden Valley Growers facility at 7502 Gowanda State Road in Eden. Volunteers from BMHA, Grass Roots Buffalo, Seneca Babcock, Connecticut Street Armory neighborhood and PUSH Buffalo picked up the 10,000 plus plants to be used in neighborhood gardens by the various agencies. The farms that participated on behalf of the Eden Valley Growers were Amos Zittel & Sons, Inc., W.D. Henry & Sons, Inc., Henry W. Agle & Sons, Inc., MCR Farms, D & J Brawdy Farms, Inc., Westview Farms & Greenhouses, Kenneth A. Henry & Sons, Inc., and Ronald Draudt & Sons, Inc. |
