RECYCLING / SHREDDING DAY
Senator William T. Stachowski sponsored a free Residential Computer and Electronics Recycling and Document Shredding Day on Saturday, June 26, 2010, at Hamburg Senior High School.
At times the two lines of cars ran the length of the high school parking lot and in to the street, but crews from Regional Computer Recycling & Recovery (RCR&R)and DocuShred U.S.A., hustled to keep up with the constant flow of vehicles. More than three trucks were filled with documents and electronics.
The free public recycling event, where personal documents can be disposed of safely in a secured environment, through document shredders, to certify proper disposal along with the recycling of unwanted or outdated electronic devises was sponsored by New York State Senator Bill Stachowski.
“People came to Protect their Identity to shred their of personal documents,” said Senator Stachowski. “And, many more came for the protection of having their computer records and information properly disposed of, which is also good for the environment.”
Certified proper shredding and disposal ensures that your identity is safe from those who might sift through papers for account names and numbers.
Area residents brought boxes of paper documents and their old electronic devices, including; computer monitors, terminals, printers, circuit boards, video gaming systems, batteries, and televisions to be recycled or destroyed.
“Most computers and electronic devices contain hazardous waste materials such as lead solder, cadmium, or beryllium along with other dangerous elements,” added Senator Bill Stachowski. “This equipment needs to be recycled properly in an environmentally sound fashion, and this event will do exactly that.”
