HONORING Dave Barus upon the occasion of his
induction into the New York State Outdoorsmen Hall
of Fame as a Member of the Class of 2010
WHEREAS, Individuals who give of their time and energies and serve
the best interests of their communities are an asset beyond remuneration
and cannot be sufficiently extolled; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to pay tribute to
outstanding individuals who distinguish themselves through their
exceptional performance, attaining unprecedented success and the highest
level of personal achievement; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and fully in accord with its
long-standing traditions, it is the intent of this Legislative Body to
honor Dave Barus upon the occasion of his induction into the New York
State Outdoorsmen Hall of Fame as a Member of the Class of 2010, this
auspicious event will be celebrated on Saturday, April 24, 2010, at the
Rusty Rail in Canastota, New York; and
WHEREAS, Dave Barus knows first-hand the importance of giving one's
free time to help others understand more about the opportunities of the
great outdoors; and
WHEREAS, An outdoorsman all his life, Dave Barus is the weekly
columnist for The Sun and Metro Community Newspapers, under the pen name
Forrest Fisher; and
WHEREAS, Dave Barus has been an active member and officer in several
sports organizations in the Buffalo and Southtowns areas; he is the
Founder and major contributor to many youth fishing programs; and
WHEREAS, Currently serving as Director of the Erie County Fish
Advisory Board and Chairman of the Fish Committee for the Erie County
Federation of Sportsmen, Dave Barus is also the Founder and Chairman of
both the twice-yearly Teach Me to Fish clinics at the East Aurora Fish
and Game Club and at the Bison City Rod and Gun Club Annual Jimmy
Griffin Memorial event for inner-city youth; and
WHEREAS, As one of the original sportsmen to have founded the
Southtowns Walleye Association in 1984, Dave Barus has been instrumental
in it becoming one of the largest amateur walleye organizations in the
United States; for many years, he has also been involved in the
Excalibur Program which provides services for disabled anglers; and
WHEREAS, In appreciation of his significant achievements in
preserving outdoor heritage and helping others experience it, Dave Barus
has been designated for special recognition as an inductee in the Class
of 2010 New York State Outdoorsmen Hall of Fame; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is moved to honor Dave Barus for his
extraordinary accomplishments which are a tribute to his skill,
dedication and commitment; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when
organizations and individuals of such noble aims and accomplishments are
brought to our attention, they should be recognized by all the citizens
of this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations with
praise and pride to honor Dave Barus upon the occasion of his induction
into the New York State Outdoorsmen Hall of Fame as a Member of the
Class of 2010; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Dave Barus.
