NEW YORK STATE SEEKING CORRECTION OFFICERS

New York State Senator Bill Stachowski today announced that the State is recruiting potential candidates for the position of Correction Officer. The examination for the position will be held statewide on March 19, 2005, with applications due by January 31.

The Senator said that a Correction Officer Trainee’s starting salary is currently $28,444 per year, which increases after six months to $30,043.
After successful completion of the one-year Correction Officer traineeship, which ends one year after the employee’s date of initial appointment to the Department’s Training Academy, the salary increases to $34,742 per year. That figure is based on current contractual agreement and may be subject to change.

“If you’re interested in this career opportunity, you should be aware that you will be subject to a 12-month training program before you can advance to Correction Officer” Senator Stachowski explained. “As part of that program, candidates will attend the Correctional Services Training Academy for a minimum of eight weeks of formal training. You’ll also be judged as a result of a background check, which looks at any possible criminal convictions, along with a person’s character and fitness. A drug screening test is also undertaken.”

Senator Stachowski has applications and information available at his District Office, 2030 Clinton Street in Buffalo. You can also obtain an informational packet by calling 826-3344 or by e-mail at senstachowski@yahoo.com.
